How are Radiant Ceiling Cooling Systems Installed?

 

Radiant ceiling cooling systems can be installed in a multitude of configurations. This type of flexibility is unseen with other heating and cooling systems.

Uponor’s radiant ceiling cooling panels, Comfort Panels, are designed to lay in ceiling panels on a suspended ceiling structure. For engineers and architects, attention to details like lighting and sprinkler systems should be planned in advance.

Acoustic panels are included with the system and are used in areas where panels need to be modified to fit. Comfort Panels cannot be cut or modified due to the pipe that runs through them.

If a ceiling system including the Comfort Panel solution is not ideal for the space, Uponor’s plaster system can be used for walls and ceilings for cooling and heating. Ceiling and wall configurations can be used alone or together.

Do you need a radiant system for a pre-existing residence?

How Do Radiant Panels Address Health Challenges?

  1. Mould: Radiant systems prevent condensation from occurring. This is done by increasing the temperature of the building structure (in cool weather). When cooling, relative humidity is controlled to prevent cooling below dew point, thus inhibiting condensation. That means no mould growth.
  2. Outdoor Allergens: If using a system including a dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS) in conjunction with radiant ceiling cooling systems, allergens are limited because 100% outdoor air is pumped into the home. Filters treat air to ensure no pollen or other allergens are present. Limited ventilation using DOAS over other HVAC systems reduces the recirculation of allergy-laden air.
  3. Thermal Comfort: There are two main factors to consider with thermal comfort: 1) air temperature and 2) radiant temperature. A radiant system combined with a ventilation system like DOAS or another HVAC system addresses both those factors. Due to the way radiant ceiling cooling works, people in this environment will feel cooler but at warmer temperatures.
